UK visa photo size — 600 × 750 px digital, vertical orientation

Quick answer

UKVI's digital photo standard for online visa applications: JPG or JPEG, vertical (portrait) orientation, at least 600 pixels wide by 750 pixels tall, file size between 50 KB and 10 MB, in colour, in focus, not mirrored / flipped / edited. Our tool delivers 600 × 750 px so it meets the minimum exactly.

The camera coaches you live on:

  • Head tilt & angle
  • Lighting & shadows
  • Head size in frame
  • Background plainness
  • Blur / sharpness

Most issues get caught in the viewfinder, before you tap shutter.

We never alter facial features — only crop, resize, and clean the background.

Frequently asked

Why must the photo be portrait orientation?

UKVI's digital standard requires a vertical photo so the head + shoulders fit naturally without cropping. A landscape photo would either crop body content or leave large empty sides. Our delivered file is always 600 × 750 portrait.

What does 'not mirrored or flipped' mean?

Many phone front cameras show you a mirrored preview but save the file un-mirrored. UKVI requires the saved file to be the un-mirrored view — i.e., your right side is on the file's right. Our pipeline detects the source orientation correctly and never flips the saved photo.

Can I submit a photo larger than 600 × 750?

Yes — UKVI accepts photos at least 600 × 750. We deliver exactly that minimum because it's the smallest size that meets the spec while keeping file size low (well under the 6 MB cap, and over the 50 KB minimum at our encoding quality).

Do I get a print file too?

No — UK visa photos are delivered as a digital JPEG only, sized for UKVI's online application upload (600 × 750 px). UKVI's online flow doesn't require a physical print; if you specifically need a paper photo for an in-person submission, you'll need to use a different service.
